Bekasi Closely Observes Five Suspected Residents with Diphtheria

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Bekasi regional administration is intensively providing a diphtheria revaccination in their areas. This is done due to the outbreak of corynebacterium diphteriae bacterium spreading in their region.
Bekasi Health Agency head Kusnanto Saidi stated that from early 2017 to December 14, 17 cases of diphtheria have been reported. Four of which are positive, eight negative and the remaining five new cases in December are still under strict observation in the laboratory.

"The patients are from five districts, none of them died," Kusnanto said on Friday, Dec. 15.
The districts include Mustikajaya, Jatiasih, East Bekasi, West Bekasi and South Bekasi Selatan, he added. He explained that the ministry has declared the diphtheria outbreak (KLB) in several provinces including Bekasi.
"We have also provided services to handle fake vaccine since early this week," he stated.
