TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi stated that President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) had instructed to charge Rp70,000 for airport train fare and it is of immediate effect in January 2018. The rate is lower than the previous estimation from Rp75,000 to Rp100,000.
"As the president instructed, Rp100,000 is too high. We carried out another calculation and come up with Rp70,000," Budi said in Jakarta on Friday evening, Dec. 8.

Budi will instruct PT Railink, airport railway operator, to use the rate. The company is encouraged to take measures to cover the operational costs. "We urge Railink to find other sources of profit from sponsors or commercials to meet the total of Rp100,000 but they can only charge Rp70,000 to the customers," he stated.
Budi continued that since airport train is commercial in nature, the government will not provide any subsidy. In the future, raising ticket fares will be implemented by the company under commercial considerations. Nevertheless, he expects the Rp70,000 tariff can be maintained for one year.
