TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Instagram is not only known for its use as an image-based social media application but it is also known to be the medium of choice for the business community.

Up to November 2017, there are reportedly 25 million registered Instagram business community accounts that are dominated by small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

That number has increased quite dramatically compared to business community accounts just four months back or in July 2017 that recorded to have 15,000,000 active business accounts. Currently, there are 800,000,000 active business-based Instagram accounts.

“More people are using Instagram to be connected to business accounts of their choice,” according to a press release issued on Monday, December 4.

More than 80 percent of Instagram accounts are currently following at least one business account. 200 million users have visited the profile of an Instagram business account each day. The press release also suggests that the Instagram community as a whole has a large contribution in supporting the growth of those businesses.

One example is an Indonesian-based shoe company Amazara that have utilized Instagram as their main platform to interact with their customers. Through a combination of attractive daily posts, Instagram stories and direct, the brand successfully developed its business and has recruited 70 employees in two years.

The data also suggests that one out of three SMEs in Instagram developed their business through the social media platform.
