TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Industry Minister Airlangga Hartanto said that Indonesia’s domestic toy industry has generated investments amounting to US$10 million or Rp135 billion.

The domestic investment climate, according to Airlangga, has boosted investors’ confidence in the domestic toy industry. He referred to the success of Mattel Indonesia for contributing 60 percent of the company’s global production.

Mattel Indonesia has also become the largest production center for Barbie dolls above China, Malaysia, Thailand, and Mexico.

“The Barbie’s production center has supplied more than 500 million dolls for the export market since 2008,” said Mattel Indonesia President Director Roy Tendean.

Despite the achievement, Minister Airlangga said that it cannot be compared to other domestic industries such as the petrochemical and steel industry.
