TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) politician Maruarar Sirait said that his party could achieve a milestone in the history of Indonesian politics should they win the upcoming 2019 General Election.

He made the claim after attending a press conference of a survey for presidential candidates and political parties entitled “Who is the potential challenger for Jokowi in the 2019 Election?”

“If the PDIP won the 2019 election, it would be the first political party that recorded victories twice in a row after the reformation era. This means that maintaining trust is far more difficult than winning [an election],” said Maruarar at the Century Park Athlete’s Hotel on Sunday, December 3.

Pollster Indo Barometer placed the PDIP as the political party with the highest electability at 30.2 percent, followed by Golkar (12.5 percent), Gerindra (10.8 percent), the Democratic Party (7.7 percent), and The National Awakening Party or PKB (6 percent).

After comparing the post-reformation era records, he suggested, “No political party were able to win twice in a row after the reformation era. This is a chance for PDIP to become a part of history considering that the elections will be held in less than two years. The PDIP’s electability currently stands at 30.2 percent, which is far higher than other political parties and exceeds the 2014 achievement.”
