TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Tropical cyclone Dahlia is reportedly approaching Lampung as a result of cyclone Cempaka`s energy split.
“Tropical Cyclone Cempaka is forming a new cyclone group called Cyclone Dahlia. The group is moving to Lampung with a velocity of 65 kilometers per hour,” weather expert with the Sumatra Institute of Technology Wahyu Sasongko said on Friday, December 1.
Wahyu predicted that the cyclone would hit parts of West Java and Lampung with moderate precipitations. He suggested the public remain at home and be wary of water puddle.

Data collected from weather underground at the Radin Inten II Branti Meteorology Station shows that the wind is blowing with a velocity of 9-13 miles per hour with moderate precipitation index. The EUMETSAT also predicted that rainfall would peak on December 2 and 3.
Wahyu said that the cyclone could be at category 7-9 or dangerous, based on an analysis using the Dvorak Technique.
“We call on the public, particularly fishermen, to refrain from having outdoor activities. We also called on the public to clean sewers because the current weather condition could trigger floods,” he added.
The tropical cyclone could also increase the wave height and pose threats against sea transportation activities, particularly in Sunda Strait. Merak Port was temporarily closed due to bad weather condition.
