Bondan Winarno was born in Surabaya, East Java on April 29, 1950. He was an author and journalist. He wrote articles for Tempo, Kompas, Sinar Harapan, Suara Pembaruan, Mutiara, Asian Wall Street Journal, etc.
Bondan Winarno was very active as a Boy Scout since his teenage years. The man represented Indonesia at the World Scout Jamboree in Idaho, the United States in 1967, where he won Baden Powell Adventure Award and honor guard for Lady Olave Baden Powell.
