Persebaya Surabaya Win Liga 2 Title after Downing PSMS Medan

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Persebaya Surabaya have won Liga 2 title after downing PSMS Medan 3-2 in the final yesterday at GBLA Stadium in Bandung.

Persebaya Surabaya took an early lead in the 2nd minute after Rishadi Fauzi scored following an assist from the right hand side.

Djadjang Nurjdaman’s PSMS equalized through a penalty taken by I Made Wirahadi in the 8th minute after a hand ball incident.

In the 37th minute, PSMS lead after Roni Fatahillah scored from a deflected free-kick that goalkeeper Miswar failed to save.

The lead did not last long as Persebaya equalized after Rendi Irwan Saputra was fouled in the penalty box.

Irfan Jaya’s penalty kick was saved by goalkeeper Abdul Rohim but he scored from the rebound to make it 2-2 before the end of the half.

Persebaya and PSMS had difficulty to score in the second half. The score 2-2 remained until the half ended. The game stretched into extra time.

In the first half of extra time, Persebaya led in the 91st minute through Irfan Jaya. Riky Kayame dribbled through PSMS Medan defenders and provided an assist to Irfan who was free.

PSMS continue to push back Bajul Ijo but failed to breach their defensive line led by Fandry Imbiri. The score 2-3 to Persebaya remained until the end of the match. The victory led Persebaya to their Liga 2 title.
