TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati visited Gelora Bung Karno sports arena (GBK) this morning. She checked out a number of several sports area that will be used in the Asian Games next year.
Sri Mulyani said she was invited by the Public Works and People's Housing Minister Basoeki Hadimoeljono to see the development and renovation progress in the area. She came with Bekraf chief Triawan Munaf and Chairman of the Asian Games Organizing Committee, Erick Thohir.
The minister said she came because she was also curious about the project's progress. "I passed the GBL several times and noted that a lot of work has been done. I got really excited and decided to come here," she said on Thursday, November 23.

Sri Mulyani also wanted to make sure that the budget for GBK's renovation project, which totaled at Rp2.8 trillion, is well spent. The budget was obtained through a multiyear funding mechanism in the fiscal years o 2016 and 2017.
The first location she visited was the main stadium where she tried kicking a football. She commented that the grass is nice and beautiful, and very thick.
She also went to the aquatic sports area, riding a golf cart driven by Minister Basoeki Hadimoeljono. Sri was mesmerized by the architectural design of the building.
The last locations she visited were the badminton and basketball arenas, which she said are memorable to her.
Minister Sri Mulyani hopes that the GBK renovation project can be completed on time with excellent results. She said that the GBK is not only an asset for sporting events only but also a public facility for everyone to enjoy.
