TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Post-Graduate Students Association (HPMI) has urged the House of Representatives` (DPR) Ethics Council (MKD) to remove Setya Novanto from the DPR Speakership position. Currently, Setya is being detained by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) for allegedly being involved in the electronic ID card (e-KTP) graft case.

HMPI chairman Fajar Asti also demands the MKD to immediately hold a plenary session to remove Setya Novanto from his current position. According to Fajar, the MKD must take measures to maintain DPR’s reputation.

“I think the DPR must be free from people without integrity,” Fajar said at the Senayan Parliamentary Complex in Jakarta on Thursday, November 23.

The HMPI, Andi revealed, has found that Setya has violated at least eight articles of the Law on Legislative Institutions and DPR’s Code of Ethics.

By reporting Setya Novanto to the MKD, Fajar said that his organization would be ready to testify before the MKD.

Andi hopes the MKD will be able to remain neutral and free of political interests.
