TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Metro Police spokesperson Sr. Comr. Argo Yuwono clarified the status of Metro TV journalist Hilman Mattauch who drove a Toyota Fortuner carrying House of Representatives (DPR) Speaker Setya Novanto.
Argo Yuwono said that Hilman is not currently a suspect, but rather as a witness in the accident involving Setya Novanto at Permata Hijau, West Jakarta, on Thursday evening, November 16.
“[Hilman] is still being questioned as a witness,” said Argo today.

Setya and Hilman were in the Toyota Fortuner that crashed into a tree and finally smashed into a lamppost. The accident was suspected to be caused by the driver’s constant cell phone use and fatigue. Argo said that Hilman could be charged with a three-month sentence under Law No 22/2009 on traffic and land transportation.
Whether Hilman will be named as a suspect or not will depend on an investigation into the accident.
“We will have to wait for the investigators. If he is named as a suspect then we’ll have to question him as a suspect,” said Argo.
