TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Hundreds of workers joined in the Indonesian Trade Union Confederation (KSPI) are marching Jakarta for a rally demanding a minimum wage rise. On November 10 tomorrow, the workers expect to have reached Jakarta City Hall and Istana Merdeka to stage rallies there.

Riden Hatam Azis, secretary general of the Indonesian Metal Workers Union Federation (FSPMI) said the long march is aimed at letting the general public know about the labor struggle in demanding a decent wage.

"Because wages are closely related to people's purchasing power," Riden said in an official statement, Thursday, November 9.

Riden said the long march would be conducted by three labor groups from various cities and regencies in West Java.

According to Riden, some 100 people participate in the march. "They have begun the march since Tuesday, November 7th," Riden said.

The labor demonstration on November 10 will demand that the central government revoke Government Regulation No. 78/2015 on Wages.

The rally is also targeted at the Governor and Vice Governor of Jakarta, demanding them to revise the recently announced minimum wage for Jakarta area. Another demand is for the government to lower electricity tariff.
