TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Setya Novanto, a witness in the electronic identity cards (e-KTP) graft case against defendant Andi Agustinus alias Andi Narogong, said that he never took any money in the e-KTP project.

After skipping two e-KTP trial sessions, Setya Novanto attended today’s trial at the Corruption Court.

Earlier on July 17, the Golkar Party chairman was named a suspect by the KPK in the e-KTP case. Setya, through Andi, allegedly played a role in the planning and procurement of the project.

“The defendant had misused his authority that allegedly caused Rp2.3 trillion in state losses,” Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) chairman Agus Rahadjo said.

During today’s trial, the judge also asked whether Setya was involved in distributing the money for bribes, to which he replied, “It’s just a cruel accusation from those who want to undermine me, Your Honor.”

Despite serving as Golkar Party Faction chairman during the deliberation of the e-KTP project, Setya said that he never received any report from Golkar members at the House of Representatives’ (DPR) Governance Commission.

“As the faction leader, I only suggest the e-KTP project be continued according to the procedures and rules.”
