Tommy Soeharto Urges Public to Support La Nyalla for Governor

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Hutomo Mandala Putra a.k.a. Tommy Soeharto urges the people of East Java to support La Nyalla Matalitti for governor. La Nyalla will be running in next year's regional elections.

"I hope the people of East Java can support him." the son of the late former President Soeharto said during a dialogue at Al Ishlah Islamic boarding school in Bondowoso, Saturday, October 28.

Tommy said that La Nyalla, the chairman of East Java's Chamber of Commerce, has the ability to make improve the province, "especially for Muslims and Islamic boarding schools here," he said.

The dialogue was also attended by several religious and military figures including Maj. Gen. (ret.) Syamsu Jalal and East Java MUI members, who also acted as speakers in the forum.

Regarding the elections, Tommy said that a governor's role is vital in improving the people's economy. Governors—once elected—must prove their commitments are not just campaign rhetoric.
