Jokowi to Visit Probolinggo Today

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo will visit Brani Wetan Village in Maron Sub-district, Probolinggo Regency, East Java today, October 2. His visit is to review the social forestry program for economic equity in the area.

According to his schedule, the President and his entourage will fly to Surabaya's Juanda Airport before boarding a helicopter to Probolinggo.

As reported by Antara, hundreds of residents are already waiting to welcome Jokowi. The roads heading to the village have been filled by people since morning.

Environment and Forestry Minister Siti Nurbaya said that prior to the event, said the President will conduct a "cognito" field check to the social forestry program area.

Siti also said that during the visit Widodo will submit a decree for the utilization of forests for three farmer groups and two decrees to reinforce the protection for village forests institutions (LMDH) in Jember and Lumajang.

"In total, 2,624 hectares will be distributed to 1,496 households," said Siti.

The president is also scheduled to witness the handover of People's Business Credit (KUR) and CSR programs to schools and farmer groups from Bank Negara Indonesia (BNI), which will be done by the bank's president director Achmad Baiquni.

After the event, President Jokowi is expected to return directly to Jakarta.
