The Government Regulation in Lieu of Law No. 2/2017 on Mass Organization (Perpu Ormas) was passed into law by the House of Representatives (DPR) on October 24.
Three factions have proposed revisions to UU Ormas, namely the United Development Party (PPP), the Democrat Party and the National Awakening Party (PKB).
They have proposed the implementation of judicial proceedings to disband any mass organization and scrapping of an article that allows jailing of members of mass organizations that are banned by the government.
Minister Kumolo said that revisions to UU Ormas will be decided by the government. He said that the government remains open to suggestions from factions and the DPR. “It’s the government’s discretion but we are not authoritarian. There will be process,” he said.
