TEMPO.CO Palembang - South Sumatra regional secretary Nasrun Umar stated that Sembilang National Park will turn into biosphere reserve in order to support the growth of the green economy.
"To realize such a program, we will work together with Indonesia Institute of Sciences (LIPI)," he said in Palembang on Saturday, Oct. 28.
He further added that the program is a pilot of management partnership among Zoological Society of London (ZSL), the UK Climate Change Unit (UKCCU), Norwegian international Climate and Forest Initiative (NICFI), Sustainable Trade Initiative (IDH), and Belandatara Foundation, etc.
This program, he continued, will serve as both national and international model since the methodology is recognized.
In addition, he explained, it will evaluate the value of landscape as the basis of investment in forest conservation by correlating the value of natural resources and the evaluation of potential and risks.
He said that South Sumatra is the first province in Indonesia selected to implement such a model.
With such a program, he continued, it can serve as a framework to illustrate the role of sustainable economy, social, and environment of a landscape.
This, he said, will also become a reference for decisions making pertaining to planning and managing a landscape.
