TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Golkar Party chairman Setya Novanto has expressed his support of the establishment of anti-corruption special detachment (Densus Antikorupsi) by the National Police.
The National Police proposed the formation of Densus Antikorupsi in a hearing with the House of Representatives (DPR)'s Legal Commission on May 23. The unit is expected to have the same power as the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK): the prevention, investigation into and prosecution of corruption.

Setya declined to comment on the controversy over the proposal, particularly after Vice President Jusuf Kalla voiced his opposition to the formation of Densus Antikorupsi. “We are hoping for the best,” he said.
The National Police chief General Tito Karnavian said that Densus Antikorupsi will be led by a two-star police officer alias an inspector general with a collective-collegial leadership model. “The leadership will not be handled by the National Police. Instead, a collective-collegial leadership will be formed,” the police chief said at the meeting with the DPR's Legal Commission on October 16.
