Govt Set to Inaugurate Cyber Body and National Encryption Agency

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Wiranto said the preparation for the establishment of a Cyber Body and National Encryption Agency (BSSN) is almost completed. Discussions on the agency's main and organizational tasks have been completed.

"The organization is complete," Wiranto said in Jakarta yesterday.

Saying that BSSN's inauguration is just waiting for final preparations, Wiranto did not say the exact date of when the launch will be. "Hopefully this month," he remarked.

The government established BSSN following the Presidential Regulation No.53/2017 signed by President Joko Widodo last May. BSSN is a non-ministerial government agency under the president, assigned to solely organize and foster state encryptions on classified state information.

The agency is also in charge of presenting the results of stripping coded information for national security purposes. The BSSN was formed not as a new institution, but as one that will strengthen the State Code Institute (Lemsaneg) and the Information and Communication Ministry's Information Security Directorate.
