Minister Luhut: No Reason to Stop Jakarta Bay Reclamation

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan said there is no reason to halt the Jakarta Bay reclamation project. Luhut revealed that his ministry had completed the project’s technical review.
“We have completed [the technical review], so there is no reason to stop [the project],” the minister said at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Wednesday, October 18.

Luhut made the comment to respond Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan’s plan to stop the Jakarta Bay reclamation project. The minister reiterated the central government’s commitment to resuming the project.
Earlier on October 5, Luhut revoked the reclamation project moratorium imposed by the previous Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs Rizal Ramli.
“The request [to revoke the moratorium] came from the Jakarta Governor,” Luhut said referring to former Jakarta Governor Djarot Saiful Hidayat, who concluded his terms of office on October 14.
