TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Ministry revealed that based on data from state-owned electricity firm PT PLN, electricity sales rose as much as 3,1 percent on the period of January-September 2017 compared to the same period in 2016.
ESDM Ministry spokesman Dadan Kusdiana in Jakarta on Friday, Oct. 13, said that the total volume of nationwide PLN electricity sales in the period from January to September 2017 reached 163,6 tera Watt hour (TWh). Meanwhile, in the same period in 2016, the sales were 158,6 TWh.
"The increase of electricity sales has given positive signs that Indonesian economy is growing," he stated.
PLN report, Dadan continued, mentioned that the 2.8 percent rise in sales in western Java in the period of January-September 2017, reached 39,4 TWh compared to the same period in 2016 with 38,3 TWh.These western areas of Java include the distributions in Banten and Jakarta.
"The rise of sales was accompanied by increasing capacity of PLN power plant and additional capacity from private plant in the two areas, one of which is Banten IPP (Independent power producer/IPP) coal-based power plant (PLTU) with 660 MW capacity operating in March 2017," Dadan explained.
