TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman said that there are enough rice stocks for 7-8 months and people should not be worried.
“The national rice stocks have reached 1.25 million tons so that it can last longer,” Agriculture Minister said in Palembang today, October 13.
Ahead of the harvest season, people should not be worried about the lack of rice stock. “There are regions that have started growing so that harvest is due in three months,” he added.
He said that enough rice stocks are not only indicated by stocks at the Logistics Agency (Bulog) warehouses but also at traditional markets. He said that he recently inspected rice stocks in several markets in Jakarta.
The ministry continues to optimize rice production, including by implementing seed policy and better water management. The options have been taken as the amount of unproductive land increased.
“Moreover, efforts are also being made to prevent forest and land fires by making use of idle land,” he said. The Agriculture Ministry is aiming to maintain more than enough rice stocks.
