TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Prijo Sidipratomo, chairman of the Ethics Council at the Indonesia Doctors Association (IDI), deplored the Corruption Eradication Commission`s (KPK) failure to ask for IDI`s opinion in relation to House of Representatives Speaker Setya Novanto`s health condition. Prijo revealed that the KPK have partnered with the IDI since 2012.
Prijo explained that in case of opinion differences difference between the IDI and doctors treating Setya Novanto, IDI’s opinion shall prevail.
“[It is] because the IDI is the highest doctors association and the IDI is impartial and upholds the professionalism [principle],” Prijo said at Cikini, Jakarta, on Tuesday, Oct. 10.
Prijo added that the KPK leaders to this date have not sent a request to the IDI to examine Setya. Prijo clarified that the KPK should have made an inquiry whether the concerned person could attend a trial or not, regardless his illness.

Prijo added that doctors who are proven to have manipulated health conditions of a suspect would be facing a sanction in the form of license revocation. He suggested the KPK to use the memorandum of understanding signed with the IDI as the basis to have Setya being reexamined by the IDI.
Setya, who also serves as the Functional Group chairman, was admitted to a hospital on September 10, for suffering from diabetes and vertigo. After several days of treatment at Siloam Hospital, the DPR speaker was transferred to Premier Jatinegara Hospital as he was diagnosed with a heart disease.
Earlier on July 17, Setya was named as a suspect in a graft case surrounding the electronic ID cards procurement project. Before being probed as a suspect, Cepi Iskandar, the pretrial judge at the South Jakarta District Court, approved Setya Novanto’s pretrial lawsuit on September 29. Setya’s status as a suspect was declared illegal.
KPK chief Agus Rahardjo claimed that he issued an instruction to send a letter requesting the IDI to examine Setya’s health condition.
“The IDI will provide a second opinion [related to Setya’s health condition],” Agus said during Setya’s pretrial hearing on Wednesday, September 27.
