TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The government will implement multi-lane free flow (MLFF) in all toll roads in December 2018. This system stops vehicles from stopping by to pay the toll fee.
Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Darmin Nasution said that the program will reduce traffic jam. "So, vehicles will not cram at the toll gate," Darmin said in Jakarta on Friday, Oct. 6.
The government plans to use sensors to detect vehicles. Plate number recording device will also be provided.
Darmin plans to ask assistance from the police to make this program work. "We will ask the police to urge people who sell or buy cars to put the vehicles under the name of the owner. Serious sanctions must apply to those who do not comply," he said. The minister explained that the regulation is needed to ensure the data of toll users.
Communication and Information Minister Rudiantara stated that MLFF implementation will use radio and satellites. However, the government first needs to realize non-cash transaction in all toll roads which is targeted to be 100 percent accomplished on October 31.
After that, the government needs to integrate the toll road lane system and establish electronic toll collection consortium.
