TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State-owned energy company Pertamina reminded that civil servants (PNS) are banned from using subsidized 3-kg liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) canisters.
"As many as 104 city administrations have agreed to such a policy, so civil servants are not entitled to receive LPG subsidy," Pertamina External Communication Manager Arya Dwi Paramita said in Jakarta on Saturday, Oct. 7.
Based on Pertamina’s data, 31 million families are not entitled to receive the subsidy because they belong in the middle to the upper-class economy. Those who are deemed entitled are 26 million families. These families belong in the category of earning Rp350,000 of monthly income per capita. In addition, their houses do not have permanent walls and floors.
Another category entitled to this subsidy is micro enterprises (UKM) such as fried snack sellers or other micro businesses. Jakarta Governor Djarot Saiful Hidayat has also affirmed that PNS in Jakarta are banned to use the gas.
In order to spread the information, Jakarta Provincial government, Pertamina, and the Association of Fuel Station Owners (Hiswana) hold a dissemination program. The program has been carried out in 11 districts out of the total of 42 districts in Jakarta. The event provides special promotions including offering a discount and 3-kg LPG canister trade-in with 5.5-kg Bright Gas canister.
