TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian actor Iko Uwais stars in yet another Hollywood action film titled Beyond Skyline.
Talking to journalists in Jakarta yesterday, Oct. 5, Iko Uwais said that the film Beyond Skyline tells the story of an alien invasion in which he acted as a member of Laotian underground troops called Sua.
“It’s a new experience in my acting career. Not only did I learn English, but also Lao language,” he said.
Moreover, the film took several scenes at Prambanan Temple in Yogyakarta and Batam. It also features Uwais’ countryman Yayan Ruhiyan and Hollywood actors such as Frank Grillo, acted in Zero Dark Thirty and The Purge: Anarchy, as well as Bojana Novakovic, who featured in Edge of Darkness.
In Beyond Skyline, Uwais also handled the action scene choreography.
The actor said that director Liam O’Donnell was interested to work with him after watching his previous film The Raid.
Aside from The Raid (2011), Uwais starred in Triple Threat, Merantau (2009), Man of Tai Chi (2013), The Raid 2: Berandal (2014) and Heat Shot (2016).
Iko Uwais and Yayan Ruhiyan also featured in Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens.
With a budget of US$14 million, Hollywood's Beyond Skyline, a sequel to Skyline (2010) will make its worldwide premiere in October and hit Indonesia theaters in early November.
