TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Former National Mandate Party (PAN) chairman Amien Rais responded to the allegation of being a traitor made by former Vice President Try Sutrisno. Amien said on September 30, “The allegation is totally inaccurate, that is all.”
Try Sutrisno previously expressed his disappointment towards Amien Rais regarding his inconsistency in amending the 1945 Constitution during Amien’s position as the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) Chairman in the period of 1999-2004.

Try deplores that the constitutional amendment has made the MPR as an ineffective state institution as it is no longer able to inaugurate a president and that group delegations had been removed.
Amien reasoned that the issue does not need to be argued further, although Amien Rais claims that he and his party once paid Try Sutrisno a visit at his personal residence. However, Amien declined to reveal the discussion between the two political figures regarding the of the 1945 Constitutional Amendment.
