TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Stress at work is inevitable. It is commonly experienced by employees and company owners. Ombi Alam Sutera Hospital psychiatrist Andri said that stress exerts impact to work performance. “For instance depression and anxiety suffered by workers will not only affect the quality of work performance, but also their life quality,” he said in Tangerang on Saturday (30/9).
Andri claimed that companies put too much attention to their employees’ physical health, whereas mental health is equally important.
Andri explained that one of the causes of stress is the work load. Another cause is the type of profession. He exemplified that people who work on seas experience more stress compared to those working in big cities since they are away from their family.
Other inherently stress-inducing professions are those with work shifts, with responsibilities relating to fund, and with high risks.
One solution to deal with stress, Andri went on, is by setting the atmosphere of relaxed, yet serious workplace. In addition, relaxation is also necessary to relieve stress. Exercising and maintaining healthy diet are other ways to maintain healthy soul.
