TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi has agreed on three points with his Malaysian counterpart Mr. Liow Tiong Lai and Philippines` Mr. Arthur Tugade.

Three points agreed with Malaysia, Budi said, include the plan to operate Ro-Ro ships between Dumai and Malacca. The seaports are currently being prepared for the cooperation.

The second agreement is on train carriages export to Malaysia who has welcomed the proposal due to its high demand.

The third is air connectivity i.e. international flights at Silangit Airport that will be opened on October 28. “So, after the route from Silangit to Singapore, we expect another route from Silangit to Penang or Kuala Lumpur,” he said.

Meanwhile, the talks with the Philippines also resulted in three points of agreement. The first being flag carrier Garuda Indonesia’s opening of a new route to Malaysia.

The second one is the Philippines’ plan to purchase carriages from state-owned PT Industri Kereta Api (INKA) for its 800-kilometer railway project. INKA has earlier exported carriages to Bangladesh.

The final point is cooperation on ship captain vocational education. Indonesian Transportation Ministry Budi said he will build a school with the Philippines. “Because the Philippines is the best supplier of sailors. With its experience, we will become better and stronger,” he said.
