TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) recorded that the number of refugees of Mt. Agung in Karangasem Regency, Bali, increased to 15,142 people spread across 125 points in seven districts.
"We estimate that the refugees will keep growing in number," BNPB information data central and public relations head Sutopo Purwo Nugroho said in Karangasem, Bali, on Saturday (23/9).
It was recorded that 35 refugees were displaced to five points in Badung Regency, 465 refugees to 17 points in Bangli Regency, 2,423 refugees to 10 points in Buleleng Regency, and 343 refugees to six points in Denpasar.
In addition, 182 refugees were displaced to nine points in Gianyar Regency, 7,852 refugees to 54 points in Karangasem Regency, 3,590 refugees to 21 points in Klungkung Regency, and 252 refugees spread across three points in Tabanan Regency.
The refugees take shelter in sports hall, city hall, residential housing and their relatives’ houses. The widely spread refuge points impede the distribution of logistics and aid. Nevertheless, the local people have shown high sense of solidarity by providing aid and offering shelters.
