TEMPO.CO, Medan - Hundreds of houses in Medan Maimun District in Medan were inundated by 20 to 50 cm of flash floods caused by the overflow of Deli River since Friday night.
Puji, a resident of the affected area, said on Saturday, September 16, that water rose and inundated houses on Friday night at around 10 o’clock.
The overflow of Deli River forced hundreds of residents to stay vigilant and relocate their belongings especially electronic equipment to higher places.
"The water rose and gushed out rapidly. We had to stay up all night to anticipate higher levels of water. But thank God, this morning the water kept gushing out," she said.
Ari, another resident, said that this is the second flood this month, but this time the water from Deli River inundated houses. He added that the district authority has reminded residents to anticipate floods, especially during rainy season.
