TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Police spokesperson Sr. Comr. Raden Prabowo Argo Yuwono confirmed that police banned a seminar entitled Revealing the Truth behind the History of 1965/1966 Incident to be held in Jakarta Legal Aid Institute (LBH) in Menteng, Central Jakarta on Saturday, Sept. 16.

The committee of the event has not applied for permission from the police. “Expressing opinions is welcomed, but it has to follow the regulation,” Argo said.
Argo explained that the freedom of speech is regulated in Law No. 9/1998 on Freedom of Expression in Public. “The regulation clearly regulates freedom of expression, citizens are obliged to obey the law,” he added.

The seminar was intended to discuss issues related to the 1965 incident and it was planned to be held in two days, September 16-17. The speakers featured in the forum include Asvi Warman Adam, Refly Harun, Martin Aleida, and others.
