TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Transportation Agency deputy head Sigit Wijatmiko said that there are three reasons why the Jakarta administration decided to postpone the motorcycle restriction policy. One of the reasons is the lack of alternative modes of public transport available for motorists.
The sterilization attempt is still hampered by two major infrastructure renovations throughout Jakarta, such as the city’s pedestrian facility and the mass rapid transit project. Both renovations are expected to be completed by the end of next year.

The infrastructure projects have caused an inconsistency of road width in Jakarta. “Our sterilization attempt is still hampered [by the renovations],” said Sigit on today.
Previously, Jakarta Governor Djarot Saiful Hidayat said that he has not yet decided whether or not the policy will be enforced. The decision was canceled based on a report from the Jakarta Transportation Agency. Another reason is the construction of the electronic road pricing (ERP).
"We're planning to enforce an ERP corridor for motorcycles [in Jakarta],” he said.
