Police on High Alert as Pro - Rohingya Rally Held Near Borobudur

TEMPO.CO, Semarang - Central Java Police are on high alert as locals plan to hold a pro - Rohingya protest near the Borobudur Temple today. The status is set for three days from September 7-9.
“The decision was made to protect the Borobudur Temple from the Rohingya solidarity protest held by Central Java residents,” Central Java Police chief Insp. Gen. Condro Kirono said today, September 8.

Condro said that the police would prevent people who planned to stage a protest at nearby mosque from entering Borobudur Temple compound, one of the nation’s vital objects. “Borobudur is a wonder of the world that has been named as a vital object,” he said.
Central Java administration secretary Sri Puryono said that the Borobudur Temple is closed while the Rohingya solidarity protest is held.
He said that an agreement has been reached that the protest would be carried out peacefully by performing communal prayers and collection of relief items for Rohingya refugees.
The official confirmed that the pro-Rohingya protest, which was earlier planned to be held in Borobudur Temple compound, will now be staged at nearby An-Nur Mosque.
