TEMPO.CO, Washington- The United States asks the UN Security Council to freeze the assets of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un and apply oil embargo in the country. The request is a response to Pyongyang's nuclear tests that had been carried out by Kim.
In a resolution draft submitted to the UN on Wednesday, September 6, the US also called to ban textile exports and end payments made to North Korean laborers sent abroad.
The sanctions are aimed at cutting North Korea's revenues that are likely used to pursue its military programs.

The draft came two days after the US ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley, called for the "strongest possible measures" to be imposed on North Korea.
Haley said on Monday that the US will ask the UN Security Council to vote on the new sanctions on September 11.
Russia's UN Ambassador Vassily Nebenzia has said this might be "a little premature."
The American's proposed resolution is aimed directly at the leadership in Pyongyang by freezing Kim's assets.
If approved, Kim and four senior North Korean officials would be given additional UN sanctions and banned from traveling globally.
