TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia and Singapore signed cooperation in the field of digital economy. The commitment was made when Indonesian President Joko Widodo or Jokowi and the Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong met at the State Palace in Singapore today, September 7.
President Jokowi said that Indonesia and Singapore would prioritize the digital economy sector. According to President Jokowi, integrating investment, technology, talent, and market potential would boost the economies of both countries.
“We will leap forward instead of stepping forward,” President Jokowi said in a press release received by Tempo.

President Jokowi suggested Batam be an ideal location to build digital economy cooperation. Included in the development endeavors are the development of digital park cluster in Nongsa, startup incubator development, and training programs for trainers, IT workers, and professors.
PM Lee expressed his appreciation to President Jokowi for inaugurating the Kendal Industrial Zone last year. According to PM Lee, the area has attracted 32 investors, raised US$500 million worth of investment and created 4,000 jobs.

PM Lee revealed plans to build a polytechnic in the Kendal Industrial Zone in Indonesia aimed at producing skilled workers to support existing projects.
Accompanying President Jokowi to the bilateral meeting were Coordinating Economic Affairs Minister Darmin Nasution, Coordinating Maritime Affairs Minister Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, Foreign Affaris Minister Retno Marsudi, State Secretary Pratikno, and Education and Culture Minister Muhadjir Effendy.
