Indonesia - Japan Set To Develop Six of Nusantara`s Outer Islands

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian and Japanese government agreed to team-up in developing Indonesia’s fisheries that are located in the country’s outer islands.
The first group of islands expected to be developed includes Sabang, Natuna, Morotai, Saumlaki, Moa, and Biak. The project will construct ports, fish markets in each of the island, and expanding the marine radar and satellite range.
“This project will commence at the end of this year, it will be officially announced once the President has met with Mister Abe,” said Brahmantya Satyamurti Poerwadi, Director General of Sea Spaces Management yesterday.
According to Brahmantya, the initial construction will focus on three locations in Sabang, Natuna, and Morotai. Meanwhile, Saumlaki, Moa, and Biak, will start their development six months after.
The government’s plan in developing 60 Indonesian outer islands coincides with the plan to celebrate 60 years of Indonesia-Japan diplomatic relations.
