TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Two Iraqis believed to be commanders of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) from Iraq were captured by the Malaysian Police. The two men were arrested along with 17 other suspects during a nation-wide sting operation held from July 4 to August 30.
During the operation, the Malaysian police also captured two Indonesians suspected to be linked with ISIS.
The Malaysian Police Insp. Gen. Mohamad Fuzi Harun said that the two Iraqis, aged 41 and 63, are brothers. The men are believed to be commanders of IS, also known as Daesh, in southern Iraq.
"They worked as technicians and were arrested under suspicion of being commanders of Daesh in southern Iraq," Fuzi told Channel News Asia on Wednesday.
Of the alleged foreign terrorist suspects in Malaysia, at least two Indonesian traders, aged 29 and 47, were arrested for recruiting ISIS members to go to Syria.
