TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A firing occurred at Jalan Asia Afrika in Central Jakarta on Tuesday morning, September 5. A rented Toyota Avanza car carrying 10 men around 40 years old was fired at and vandalized by a group of unknown people.
The Tanah Abang Police Chief, Adj. Comm. Lukman Cahyono suspects that at least two people are responsible for the shooting.
The police are still gathering information from the victims. "They couldn’t see clearly what the attackers looked like because they were afraid and are still in shock," Lukman said.
According to witnesses, Lukman said, the shots were fired three to four times at Jalan Asia Afrika. The victims then pulled over at Jalan Gatot Subroto.
The shooters then came over to the car, hit the windshields and mirrors with baseball bats before fleeing the area. Three people were injured.
According to Lukman, the incident began when the car passengers argued with a group of youths who were loitering at Jalan Asia Afrika.
"The victims apologized, and thought that there was no problem," he said.
However, as they were driving on the flyover near the Jakarta Convention Center, they were chased by two cars. And then the shooting happened.
"The attacker fired a shot at the trunk, aiming at the rear of the car," he said.
