Anti-motorcycle Restriction Movement Demands Transparency

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Anti-motorcycle restriction movement (GAMPAR) will release their statement on the implementation of motorcycle restriction policy in Jakarta. "We plan to hold a press conference Jakarta Legal Aid Institute (LBH )," Nursal, GAMPAR coordinator, said on Saturday (2/9).

Nursal explained that GAMPAR will express their strong objection on Jakarta administration plan to restrict motorcycles from accessing HI Roundabout to Sudirman Street, Central Jakarta.

"People of Jakarta demand justice and transparency of the policy, the review, the basis of such a policy that denies the people’s rights," he said.

Furthermore, Nursal said that the government has not been able to provide safe, convenient, affordable, and integrated public transportation to compensate for the restriction. What is more concerning is, Nursal expressed, many people rely their livelihood on motorcycles and on the access to the restricted streets.

He claimed that this movement is supported by more than 4.000 people signing a petition through Change.org.

Jakarta administration through Transportation Agency decided to extend the area of motorcycle restrictions from Hotel Indonesia roundabout to Senayan roundabout. The implementation of this policy is tested from 12 September-11 October. It will be of immediate effect on 12 October 2017.
