TEMPO.CO, Tangerang - The number of sacrificial animals in Tangerang Regency this year has decreased by 10 percent. The decline was allegedly due to the increasing interest of people doing online transactions.

"So the direct purchase of sacrificial animals in sales stalls tends to decrease," said Head of Veterinary Public Division of Agriculture and Food Security Department of Tangerang Regency, Febya Satyaningsih, Thursday, August 31.

This year, the total number of sacrificial animals examined and declared to be worth slaughtering is as many as 20,323 animals, consisting of 3,528 cows, 22 buffaloes, 4,847 goats, and 11,926 sheeps. While in 2016, the total animals examined were as many as 23,718 in 507 of sacrificial animals sale locations swith the number of animals that were slaughtered was 10,699.

Since 2 weeks ago, 92 officers have been deployed by Tangerang Administration to check the health of the sacrificial animals. Until H-1 Idul Adha Day, officers have not found any animals that are not worth slaughtering. Officers only found a number of clinical diseases of the goats and sheep.

"Eye pain is caused by irritation of dust and dirt when on the vehicle, while the diseases start from the wound when eating sharp grass, followed by secondary infection," said Febya. The diseases of the sacrificial animals can be cured. So that before the slaughter, the animals are in a healthy condition.
