TEMPO.CO, Houston - Indonesian Consulate General (KJRI) in Houston announced that there are more than 120 Indonesian citizens who are affected by Hurricane Harvey. Currently, there are no reports of Indonesian casualties.
Most of the Indonesians were evacuated to several local shelters such as churches, mosques, and at fellow Indonesian neighbors. The consulate-general has also opened a shelter for those who need to evacuate to the KJRI Houston, Texas.
“We accommodated five Indonesian citizens until yesterday,” said Director of Indonesian Citizens Protection at the Foreign Affairs Ministry Muhammad Iqbal on Thursday, August 31.
The KJRI Houston also formed a task force to accommodate Indonesian citizens that are affected by Hurricane Harvey. The team consists of staff members and public figures.
Greater Houston and its vicinity are still showered under intense rain with strong winds. Local officials have issued a mandatory and voluntary evacuation for local residents living in the area who are affected by the hurricane. As many as 30,000 people have been evacuated from the Hurricane Harvey as of press time.
