Indonesian Consulate General Closes as Typhoon Pakhar Hits HK

TEMPO.CO, Beijing - Indonesian Consulate General (KJRI) in Hong Kong did not provide services to Indonesian Migrant Workers (TKI) on Sunday as Typhoon Pakhar struck.
"The authorities warned that Typhoon Pakhar T8 would hit Hong Kong. Therefore, the KJRI will close on Sunday (27/8)," the announcement on KJRI Hong Kong Facebook account stated.
In normal condition, KJRI Hong Kong remains operating on Saturdays and Sundays to provide immigration and employment related services to migrant workers that have reached 154.000 in number.
Typhoon Pakhar also caused a seminar on breast cancer prevention held in KJRI Hong Kong on Sundayafternoon to be cancelled.
"Safety comes first. We urge Indonesian citizens (WNI) to obey directions from Hong Kong authorities,"Information and Social Cultural Coordinator Hong Kong KJRI Yuni Suryati said.
Typhoon Pakhar is the second storm this week after Typhoon Hato which killed dozens of people in Macau and Guangdong Province, China.
