TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Party of the Functional Groups (Golkar) secretary-general Idrus Marham confirmed their support for Joko Widodo in 2019 General Election. Furthermore, Idrus estimated that the support of Golkar party can contribute 65 percent to Jokowi’s triumph in the election.
“I believe that Golkar’s support will bring victory to Jokowi with 65 percent votes whoever the opponent is,” Idrus said in Jakarta on Saturday (26/8).
He asserted that the latest e-ID graft case involving Golkar Party chairman as a suspect will not affect their support on Jokowi. Golkar Party, he said, will still respect legal processes towards Novanto. “They are not related. On one hand we respect the legal process, but political process, our support for Jokowi, will still continue,” he stated.
Idrus is certain that Golkar will play a much needed role in the coalition supporting Jokowi for 2019 election. “With Golkar’s support, Jokowi’s triumph has to be spectacular,” he said. Idrus added that his party is no longer discussing tug of war on their support for Jokowi, but they focus on careful planning to achieve victory.
