TEMPO.CO, Yogyakarta - Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi claimed to have engaged in a discussion to expedite the construction of Kulon Progo Airport to help build connectivity in Yogyakarta region.
The airport is intended to support access to the tourism destination Borobudur. Not only that, Budi believes that the connectivity program will connect two airports by railroad.
“I have made a request to Development Finance Comptroller (BPKP) and Air Transportation Directorate General, state-owned airport operator PT Angkasa Pura I to have a technical discussion related to Presidential Regulation draft to expedite the construction of Kulon Progo Airport,” he said on Friday, August 25.
Budi also asked Public Works and Public Housing Ministry (PUPR) and state railway operator PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) to support access to Kulon Progo Airport. Budi revealed that he asked PUPR Ministry to facilitate highway network facilities and PT KAI to conduct a study on airport train that connects Kulon Progo with Yogyakarta, which is 41 km away.
