TEMPO.CO, Manado - North Sulawesi Province boosts exports of skipjack tuna to the United States in the second semester of 2017.
"Exporting skipjack tuna as a commodity is still low compared to other countries like Japan, so it will be fully supported to increase the volume," North Sulawesi International Industry and Trade Department head Darwin Muksin said in Manado on Friday, August 25.
The increase of commodity volume, he continued, is necessary since the United States is a highly potential market. The quality of the commodity has to be maintained to keep the market attracted. In addition, the skipjack tuna will be processed in such a way that can make it durable in a long period of time, he explained.
The US is attracted to North Sumatra’s skipjack tuna since it can be made as food ingredients, and it can serve as organic flavor enhancer without chemical content.
It is expected that the demand keeps increasing and spreads to other countries including those in Asia, Europe, and Africa, he added.
