TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Security Maintenance Agency`s Directorate of Water and Air Police Corps (Ditpolair Korppolairud Baharkam) officers of Indonesian Police Headquarters (Polri) thwarted smuggling attempt of 15 tons of illegal salt from Malaysia in Phillip Strait, Riau Islands.
"The ship sailed from Pasir Gudang Malaysia heading to Moro Indonesia," Polair Korpolairud Baharkam Polri Director Brigadier General Lotharia Latif said in Jakarta on Saturday, August 26.
He explained that Ditpolair Korppolairud Baharkam officers used KP Antasena 7006 rubber boat to halt Amanah II ship on Friday at dawn, August 25.
The Police ran through the content and documents of the cargo of the ship which includes 15 tons of salt, 30 baskets of longans, and 611 fish fibers. Afterwards, the police questioned the captain of the ship with the initial JDH and a crew of 11 people who were alleged to carry illegal cargo for profit.
Since they could not provide documents for the cargo, the Police then named JDH a suspect. Later, he continued, the case was mandated to Riau Islands Ditpolair Police for further processing.
