TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - South Korean shoe material company Dong-Jin Textile Co. Ltd. expressed an interest in investing Rp330 billion in Karawang, West Java. The company will start developing a production facility next year.
The company will manufacture textiles for sneaker materials with 500 employees. The production stage is expected to start in 2019.
Dong-Jin Textile Co. Ltd. president and owner Choi Woo-Chui elaborated the plan when meeting with Indonesian Ambassador to South Korea Umar Hadi in Busan, yesterday, August 23.
“The Indonesian Embassy in Seoul will help the company to communicate with educational institutions, such as vocational high schools and schools of textile technology in Indonesia so that the company can start recruiting skilled labors,” Umar said in a press release today.
The production facility in Indonesia would be the fourth one situated outside South Korea. Earlier, the company had set up three factories in Vietnam.
Dong-Jin manufactures sneaker materials to be supplied to major brands, such as Nike and Adidas.
The production facility in Karawang will apply the same technology standards with those in South Korea, including those related to waste management.
Currently, Indonesia houses about 2,000 South Korean companies. Meanwhile, there are at least 36,000 Indonesian migrant workers employed in South Korea.
