Indonesia struggled to develop their game since the start of the match as their opponents neatly and aggressively. Things got worse when Indonesia’s Hanif Sjahbandi was sent off in the 62nd minute for hitting an opposition player.
Indonesia owed their first team goalkeeper Satria Tama who had a blinder for getting a point. He made three crucial saves before being sidelined by injury in the 65th minute and replaced by substitute Kartika Aji.
Vietnam had a goal disallowed in the 70 minute for offside.
Indonesia sustained Vietnam onslaught and keep a clean-sheet thanks to the substitute keeper’s great performance. The keeper foiled a one on one chance on injury time, tipping the ball onto the bar.
Indonesia U22 have one match remaining against Cambodia on Thursday in Group B, whereas Thailand will face Vietnam.
Indonesia U22 Team: Satria Tama (Kartika Ajie, 68); Putu, Andy, Hansamu, Rezaldi; Hargianto, Hanif; Yabes, Septian (Asnawi 84), Febri; Ezra (Manewar 54).
