There are 70 registered members in the online marketer group (OMG) Pekalongan, many of the members already started their online businesses before OMG was established in the region. This online service industry has elevated the economic growth of Pekalongan.

“Many of the young generations here don’t work in formal jobs, [they] prefer to market products through the comfort of their home,” said Sakdullah Anwar.

He argues that the online marketing phenomena in the region are in accordance with a research conducted by Google and Temasek, stating that Indonesia will dominate Southeast Asia’s e-commerce by 52 percent which will be worth US$46 billion by the year 2025.
